What an intriguing looking flower! And can you explain that name? Deadnettle -- since the plant is very much alive, I wonder, is it a killer?

I had the same doubt as quilly! :)

Nice photo, Polona

Rich, refreshing and rare! I haven't seen a flower such as this ever before!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Those flowers are a bit creepy - they look like mouths, with little beards beneath!

thanks all.

why is it called deadnettle, you ask? because it doesn't sting, simple as that - and the leaves resemble those of a stinging nettle

genus lamium, btw, from the mint family

(za alenko - ustnatice, mrtva kopriva - in ni v sorodu z orhidejami)

Hvala. Vem, vem, da ni, jo dobro poznam. Le cvet se zdi podoben (vidimo, kar želimo) in meni je bolj drag od vzgojenih pravih orhidej.

Lep vikend!

That's quite the flower when seen up close. Excellent macro!

We have stinging nettle, but I don't think I have ever seen it bloom....in fact, I don't think I could identify it in the forest. Now you've got me wondering if I should be looking for the bloom, if it is as interesting as your deadnettle!
